Gastronomy

The area of Bergamo offers a rich selection of tasty foods: polenta, classical or taragna (flavored with excellent traditional local cheeses) to accompany stewed meats; cheeses; desserts; olive oil, wine. There is something for every taste and no-one is ever left unsatisfied.
Typical first courses are “Cansonsèi de la bergamasca” and “Scarpinocc de Par” prepared with handmade fresh pasta. These products originally came from peasant cuisine and each one tells us their area of provenance while being examples of local history and culture. 

Wine production

Valcalepio is part of the hilly area between the Cherio and Oglio rivers in the province of Bergamo, with particularly interesting landscapes and culture. Apparently the name “Calepio” comes from the Greek term “Kalos-Espias”, meaning “Good land; sweet land”. The fertile soil and the mild climate due to the lake’s vicinity are effectively ideal for the cultivation of grapes and the production of top quality wines.
